Aquaculture & Fisheries Regional Development Officer

Salary range: £24,171 to £29,673 depending on experience

A vacancy has occurred for an experienced marine biologist to work

in West Sutherland &Wester Ross. This is a full time post funded by the

Scottish Government until March 2011 and involving working from

home.

 

The successful candidate will ideally have obtained a post graduate

qualification and have a good knowledge of both wild and farmed

salmonids.This is a multi task role requiring hands on biological work,

excellent people and negotiating skills, and an open mind so as to enable

the candidate to improve fish health management in both the wild and

farmed sectors. Good IT skills, budget management, the ability to write

reports and a full driving licence are all essential.

 

The job includes farm visits, wild fish netting, data collection and

interpretation, promoting and managing Area Management Agreements,

and project management. The Development Officer will work closely

with Fish Farmers, wild fisheries proprietors, Fishery Trusts and a

Regional Steering Group made up of local representatives with salmonid

interests. He/she will act as the main communications channel between

these groups and report to the Scottish Government through the TWG

Project Manager.
