WRFT Newsletter February 2026 published

2025 was a particularly busy year for Wester Ross Fisheries Trust with a field work programme which included monitoring sea trout and sea lice (primarily to inform salmon farm Environment Management Plans, WRASFB and SEPA) and surveys of juvenile salmon within the rivers of Wester Ross.
Rivers in the northern part of Wester Ross, particularly those which flow into the Wester Ross Marine Protected Area, retain relatively strong wild juvenile salmon populations.
However, particularly from Loch Torridon south, problems associated with sea lice infestation continue; wild juvenile salmon distribution is becoming patchy (or is obscured by stocking).
This newsletter also includes a summary of a stream nutrient restoration pilot project, and an update on the Wester Ross Seagrass project.
As ever, much of our work is only possible because of support from many other people with an active interest in wild fisheries and wildlife conservation and management. The newsletter has links to related reports with additional information.
