WRFT Review May 2010 Published

Posted: Monday 17 May, 2010 @ 11:38:03

The latest WRFT review provides a summary of the work of WRFT over the year 2009-2010. The report includes sections on juvenile fish surveys, catches, sampling of sea trout in the sea, and a range of projects and management trials many of which will be continued over the year ahead. We were delighted to find juvenile salmon above waterfalls in the south of the area. The summer of 2009 was one of the best in recent years for local sea trout populations, with no reports of sea lice epizootics and an abundance of sandeels providing excellent feeding.

Biosecurity issues were addressed with the preparation of a Biosecurity action plan for the Wester Ross and Lochalsh area, with support from RAFTS. We have opportunities in Wester Ross to limit the continued spread of a number of troublesome species including Mink and Rhododendron ponticum. There are also reports on RAFTS funded management trials and education projects.

As always, we hope you will find the report of interest. Please contact us at info@wrft.org.uk if you have any questions or would like further information.
